We build pressure-treated softwood and composite decks, cedar slatted fencing, pergolas and built-in planters across Surrey and Sussex. The best gardens aren't about expensive timber — they're about a level joist frame, hidden fixings, proper drainage and knowing which materials age well outdoors. We'll spec the whole thing to last a decade without headaches.
What a decking project includes
Site survey & level check
We measure falls, check drainage, flag any existing slab or tree-root problems and design a joist frame that'll stay level for years — not one that'll twist in its first summer.
Joist frame & sub-base
Pressure-treated C24 joists on adjustable deck feet or concrete pads. Proper noggins, correct centres, airflow gaps at every wall junction. The frame is what makes a deck last.
Deck boards
Grooved softwood (BSW Timber) for value, composite (Trex, Millboard) for zero-maintenance, or hardwood (iroko, balau) for longevity. Screw patterns set out, hidden fixings on composite, end-cuts sealed.
Cedar slatted screens
We cut cedar slats to a consistent gap, build rigid modular frames, and paint or oil them before install. The resulting screen is airy, private, and holds its colour.
Pergolas, planters & LED
Framed pergolas in softwood or oak, built-in cedar planters matching the screens, LED strip lighting let into the border for evenings.

How long does a decking job take?
A standard 20–30 m² deck with a simple joist frame is 5–7 working days. Full garden transformations with screens, pergolas and planters run 2–4 weeks depending on size.
Every job is different — we'll give you a firm timescale in our quote, and flag anything that might affect it (awaiting materials, party-wall agreements, structural sign-off).
Common questions.
Softwood or composite decking — which should I pick?
Softwood (pressure-treated) looks warmer in the first years and needs re-oiling every one or two summers. Composite (Trex, Millboard) never needs oiling and looks almost identical on day one and year five. Choose softwood if you don't mind the upkeep; composite if you do.
Do you use hidden fixings?
On composite always. On softwood — either hidden clips or plugged counter-sunk stainless screws depending on your preference. We never leave raw screw heads showing on a finished deck.
How tall can I go on a raised deck without planning permission?
Up to 30cm above existing ground level and covering less than 50% of garden area, decks are usually permitted development. Above that or in conservation areas you may need consent — we'll flag it before starting.
Can you do cedar slatted screens to match my deck?
Yes — cedar slatted screens are one of our most-requested extras. We'll match the slat size and screw pattern to your deck so it reads as one coherent garden.
